PHYSICAL EDUCATION

P.E at Tillington Manor Primary School

P.E. (Physical Education) at Tillington Manor is led by Mr Tucker who has an enormous passion for all things sport!  Through implementing an exciting and diverse sporting curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities, children at Tillington Manor are exposed to a wide range of sports, learning the skills, tactics and understanding needed in order to be successful.  These skills are widely transferable to other areas in the curriculum and in their wider lives.

PE at Tillington Manor aims to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing in our children now and for their future. Physical fitness is an important part of leading a healthier lifestyle. It teaches self-discipline and that to be successful you must work hard, show resilience and have the determination to believe that anything can be achieved.

INTENT

It is our intent at Tillington Manor Primary School to teach children life skills that will positively impact on their future. We aim to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical activities. We want to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.

IMPLEMENTATION

Pupils at Tillington Manor Primary School participate in weekly high quality PE and sporting activities.  Our PE programme incorporates a variety of sports to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses. We provide opportunities for children to engage in extra-curricular activities after school, in addition to competitive sporting events. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also well-being.

IMPACT

Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at Tillington Manor Primary School, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes. Within our lessons, children are taught about self-discipline and that to be successful you need to take ownership and responsibility of their own health and fitness. Our impact is therefore to motivate children to utilise these underpinning skills in an independent and effective way in order to live happy and healthy lives.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Day Trips

Children within all year groups are given the opportunity to attend educational day trips which go hand-in-hand with their learning journey.

A full risk assessment is carried out prior to each trip. In addition to this, correspondence is provided to parents via letters and our website so that they are fully aware of the activities to be undertaken during each trip.

Residential Trips

We believe the experience gained from topic related, or curriculum based, educational visits is extremely valuable. Throughout school, pupils are presented with the opportunity to go on a residential school journey.

After School Clubs and Activities

We offer the pupils a range of activities after school and to ensure our children can experience a wide assortment of options, we offer a different variety of clubs every term.  These may include:
